Question:

Question about my tooth extraction (four removed)?

Alright, I got four teeth extracted on Tuesday, since then I have stuck to milkshakes, grits, jello, etc. But today I ate mac n cheese as carefully as I could, but i'm being a little paranoid about accidentally dislodging the blood clot. How strong is the blood clot on the extraction sites? If I was going to get dry socket, would I have by now? Also, I see white stuff on some of the extraction sites, and it looks like food, but i'm not sure what it is. Help, please. Thanks!

  1. You should be fine.. if you havent dislodged it yet.. you probably wont, u would be surprised at how quickly its going to heal.  The white stuff is food.. dont try to take it out or anything, its not going to hurt it, it will come out eventually with drinking or brushing.  Oh and you would have had dry socket by now, and you would know yo u had it.

  2. I just had my wisdom teeth extracted as well. I thoguht I had an infection. But you probably just have a lot of food stuck in your sockets like I did. They will irrigate them when you visit them next. Don't poke or pry around the sockets this will irritate them.

  3. I had four teeth extracted 2 weeks ago and I got my spacers 2 hours ago. When I got mine extracted I only ate stuff like that for 2 1/2 to 3 days.Mac and cheese I think is okay. You can eat pretty much whatever you want, but when you're done, remember to head straight to the bathroom and rinse with water incase anything got caught up/down your gums. Yes, I, too, had white stuff on it. I asked my dentist and he said it's just a blood clot and it would go away. He just cleaned it for me with gauze. If you are concerned call your dentist.

  4. You should follow your doctor's instructions.

  5. Dry socket occurs 3-5 days after an extraction.  It seems like you are not in much discomfort now.  You will know there is a problem because all of a sudden there will be an excruciating pain.  If this happens, just go back to your dentist or oral surgeon to have the dry socket treated.

The white stuff could be food, or it could be dead gum tissue that will just fall off and be replaced with normal tissue shortly.

Honestly, there is not much to do.  As long as you followed the don't smoke, spit, suck on a straw or rinse for 24 hours rules, you should be just fine.  Just don't go picking around the extraction sites, or flushing them out if they don't need to be.  As long as they aren't bothering you, just let them heal up.
