Question:

Question about nascar teams?

Just curious.

Do you think that there should be one top driver for each team?

Hendrick for instance, should Jeff Gordon be given top dog status? Or should he have to just suck it up and deal with being given equal status to his team mates?

And if you think there should be the one top driver, what do you think should happen if one of the other drivers talents begins to rival or surpass that of the top driver?

  1. GOOD QUESTION WINTER GLORY....... yes/ no.....

yes because they is at least on vetrain on a team, but i think if someone comes up and rivals the top dog.... may the best man win the title.....! right now this year i consider Jr., top dog at hendricks, and *chokes* kyle top dog at *JGR*

no, because they are teams mates, they should help each other out, does not care how many chapionships you have, or races you won, they all should get equal equipment.....!  but than again i am just a fan so what do i know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. It depends on who's assigning the status.  The owner may have a particular driver in mind as his top dog.

As fans, we might think that a different driver on that team is the top dog.

The drivers all think that they are top of the heap, and they should.  They have to believe that they can win every race, or they shouldn't be racing.

  3. Due to the fact that he has been racing longer and has more championships jeff should be top dog in the stable.  Or top horse.  Whatever.

Same for the rest of the teams.  Seniority rules in all things.

  4. i dont think i want to touch that one

  5. I don't know how they would regulate that.  In addition, who's going to determine who the "top driver" is?  You gonna have Mike Helton or someone else?  Or the team owner like Rick Hendrick?  Honestly, I don't see that working because in the Sprint Cup, there is too much talent and especially with the loss of major sponsors, not enough teams to have only "one top driver" per team.  There would be too much controversy over which drivers are considered "top drivers" and what the criteria is to determine that.

  6. I don't think that there is a way to really regulate that but I can tell you that if you get a chance to go to a race and listen to the radios some owners do tell there drivers to play nice when certain people are around them and I have heard owners tell drivers to slow up so someone could pass. You see bonus point swaps all the time. They even announce it on the TV.

  7. In my opinion seniority should always be honored as the top dog until he leaves or retires. Jeff Gordon has earned the right to be HMS top dog and should remain HMS top dog.

  8. No, it's a team.  That would motivate teammates to wreck each other rather than working together.  And Dale Jr would be the top guy and Jeff would be pissed.

  9. No, because then they wouldn't be considered teams and the other drivers would just get jealous and it would be a huge mess.

Sure, some of the more experienced drivers should get more respect than others (for example, Mark Martin), but it ends there.

  10. Hendrick set the model a long time ago with Labonte and Gordon fighting for the championship. Jeff won the races and Terry won the title a lesson Gordon tried to put into effect last year and was run over by another teammate Jimmie Johnson.

  11. There will never be a top driver, with every season a new one or the vets bring something new to the game.  Everyone has their good days and then you can slump for two years or more than comeback.

Should it be that way, it can never happen to much talent among everyone to have a single driver be on top in each team.
