My younger sister really does not like her high school, and our parents don't either. The school is way too over crowded. My sister is a freshman and is looking into getting an online high school diploma. I was doing some research for her and i found http://www.k12.com and i was wondering if this is any good. I was also wondering have you or anyone you know ever gotten a high school diploma through k12?

Does going to an online high school hurt your chances into getting into a good college?

Does anyone know the laws of getting an online high school degree in New Jersey?

Any information you give would be much appreciated and helpful. Thanks :)

  1. there are a lot of reasons why students want to get out of high school - one way to do it is to use the American School.  We used them for history, english, even PE.  you work at your own pace and send in each assignment.  It is good for people who are self starters - if you aren't then you can really mess yourself up and get so far behind you have a hard time catching back up.

If your sister is able to get a lot of classes this way, the school just accepts them in place of their classes.  She may take a lot this way, and not take so much from her local school.  Or you can find another curriculum that offers the whole deal.

as she gets older, and if she really gets ahead of her peers she can attend a local college campus for more classes.  this is a great introduction to college and may make getting into a desired 4 year institution easier.

it may be a good solution for your sister.

    good luck

  2. try adams state college.

  3. I go to k12 and I like it a lot. You just have to be REALLY focused and an independent worker.

  4. i currently have a child in the k12 program. Until this year k12 didn't have a 12th grade, at least not here in Ohio where I live. As of this year they do have a 12th grade. I have used several online programs since we started homeschooling and so far k12 is the best by far. They will provide you with the computer, printer, books, and all the supplies you will need for school. The curriculum is easy to follow and structured to fit each childs individual needs. Most times my son is finished with his work in a day in less than 4 hours. You can work ahead as well if you want.

As far as college. my oldest son graduated with an online charter school ( same as k12 ) and is now attending a private university with scholarships. So yes it works exactly the same as public schooling would. You still need the best GPA you can get ..he graduated with a 3.5 and the best score possible on your SAT's and ACT's.

In public school my son left with straight F's in the 8th grade and went from that to straight A's and B's in online schooling. So for some it works better! As long as the student is self disciplined enough to " do the work " all should be fine. They still have teachers and advisors there for help just the same as a public school.

I know in some places k12 has extended their registrations so if you are going to enroll ...you might want to do that right away before it closes. Once you enroll her, you can immediately wd her from her public school. Fill in all the info online then have her take a simple placement test online and then they will contact you.

If you need anything else from me, please let me know and feel free to email me.

  5. best school around my kids all have done it and yes my oldest is 26 and in college k12 is awesome but we want serious homeschooling not ones who want the easy way out you must study hard in this program yes they do give computers but they stink get your own check into other programs call your local education board and find out rules for your state and you don't need to em,ail anybody you have a brain check it out for your self

  6. AVOID. Just use your common sense and think about what people will think of that. She will be running away from problems and have no social skills for one thing - plus she probably won't have the motivation without teachers telling her.

It is sad she is not happy and if there is no other schools around where you live then it's sad but she should just stick it out for another year. I know you're protective of her but it will do her the world of good as the real world is not a bed of roses and she will learn a wealth of information from this. Just because it's crowded is not really a reason to move her out of it.

  7. Good Luck
