  1. The rebate MIGHT go to that company, depending on what they reported on the tax return. If they indicated that a refund anticipation check was given--which is what you apparently received--then the IRS will mail the check directly to you. However, if they didn't indicate that to be the case on the tax return the stimulus payment will go to them. I've run across a few cases where this has caused a big problem either because they are nowhere to be found, claim they received a different amount, or charge a fee to turn the money over.

Call the IRS at 1-800-829-0582, extension 726 Monday and they can tell you where the check will be going.

  2. Any time you have a lot of money involved in a transaction, you should pick the most secure transaction method.  Sounds like this Tax buster may need to be busted.  If were you I would contact the IRS and find out if there are any other complaints about them. If there are many complaints, it is probably a scam and the IRS would be very interested in your information so they could be caught.  If you are the only complaint maybe they are legit and you will just have to find out what happened.  Try contacting the company that owns the building they were in.  Maybe they know how to get in touch with them.

  3. Your rebate will be mailed to your address based on the schedule published on the IRS website.
