Question:

Question about overdrawn bank account?

by  |  earlier

Basically someone (actually two companies) took money from my bank account after I had canceled the automatic payments (instead of allowing them to debit their money today, I was going to mail a check in a few days after payday and whatnot).

Now my bank account is overdrawn. As long as I make deposits and clear it up within 30 days, will anything else bad happen to me with the bank? I bank with Wachovia. Has anyone had any experience in this area?

  1. Most charge around $35 per overdraft, and expect it to be cleared within 5 business days, or charge a daily fee also. Another option is to talk with the bank manager and explain what happened, most times if this is you first offense they will take at least one of the fees away

  2. If you have overdraft protection and the amount of the debits fall w/in it's limits then nothing will happen, when your pay is depositied they will minus the amount, if you don't have O.Draft  protection then you will just be charged an over draft fee, like $20. per each debit that went over your balance.

  3. You will just keep getting charged. Most of the time it matters not, as long as you eventually get caught up. Make sure to notify them not to accept any more debits from those companies you cancelled.
