Question about packet sniffers...?

In order to actually sniff the data packets being transmitted within the LAN, and utilizing a wireless PCI adapter as the sniffing hardware, the other computer must also be wireless, right? Because the other computer on the LAN is hardwired in via the ethernet cable.

  1. you are correct.  In order to monitor wireless packets you need a wireless adapter.  Just as you would need a standard NIC (hard line) to monitor LAN traffic.  

    Assuming you have the proper adapters that can monitor traffic.  e.g. anything with omniPeek.  


  2. yes only when you set your wired/wireless to have all parties access.

    example: only administrator can do the job.
