Question about painting stucco house with glass chunks on it?

Ok so we just bought a cute bungalow, but it has the 60's 70's stucco on the ouside with the little glass chunks stuck to the sides. How do we go about painting our house??? Do we have to get someone to re-stucco the outside and then paint, or can we prime it and then paint? Ive been to some different stores and am getting different answers. Some people say yes re stucco because the paint wont stick to the glass. Others say a good primer and a couple coats of paint and your good to go.

Help us please!

  1. Hi, you definitely can. Go to any reputable paint store and they should have qualified staff to instruct you.  My nephew had the stucco and glass embeddeded exterior walls you are talking about and he painted them years ago.  They still look good.

  2. I had my stucco house painted recently and my advise is to not skimp on the prep work.

Clean the house with a pressure sprayer and scrape it as needed.

They sell paint that is just for stucco and it is thicker  than ordinary paint.

We used a grinder on the front of our house to smooth out some of the stucco.

  3. i owned a few houses in cal. that were stucco, i don't know about having glass in it but, i do know if you paint stucco you should spray it with your garden hose and soak it real good. that way the paint stays on the top. if not the stucco will soak up the paint like a sponge and it won't look like it's been painted, till you put a couple hundred gallons on it.  don't believe me, try it in the back of the house in a small area.

that's all you need to do.
