Question about passports! Please read...?

I don't know about America but in Germany and Europe I think we have these new biometric passports which look like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7a/Biometrie_reisepass_deutsch.jpg/431px-Biometrie_reisepass_deutsch.jpg

Well, see the little thingy at the very bottom? It's a chip containing some info about the owner. Can anyone tell me WHAT info exactly please?

  1. It is obviously a micro chip with some of your info on it to prevent copying of the passports.  Probably just the things you wrote on your application.  In micro chip form it is more difficult to reproduce the passport if someone steals it or you lose it.   I doubt if anyone really knows what is there except the government officials that issue it.


  2. The chip contains some of your personal info and your picture. It is basically the same as the info on the bio page in your passport.
