im having problems with percentage. if a hat costs $38.99 and its 20% off, how can i solve it. please help

  1. You multiply $38.99 and .20. First, you have to put the percent into a decimal. Then, multiply.  


  2. If it is 20% off, then you are only paying for 80% of it, or .8 * 38.99.

  3. 20% in decimal is 0.2

    so,

    0.2*38.99=7.798

    amount to pay=$38.99-$7.798=$31.192
