Question about personalized vows

In the vows traditionally you say your name and your future spouse's name. I'm a McBride, but I'm going to be a Jones. Do I use my maiden name? I think you do, but I'm not sure.

  1. Traditionally, you (or the minister) would not say the 'last name'...only the first name.

But if you are writing your own vows...you can say it anyway you want!

  2. Usually you just use your first name, but if you do use your last name, use your maiden name. You won't be pronounced as husband and wife until the end of the ceremony.

  3. you would use your maiden name

  4. yes you use your middle name .

  5. all i have ever seen on tv is like "i sarah take you billy to..." i dont think i've ever heard a last name spoken.

  6. NO! USE NEW NAME

  7. Yes, traditionally you would use your current last name.  You will not be a Jones (assuming you have chosen to take the last name Jones) until you are wed.

(Not to mention McBride is such a wonderful last name for the occasion)

  8. I am pretty sure a lot of vows just use the first name and that's what I would personally do, but if you need to use a last name, I would go with the maiden.  Otherwise it may seem confusing and people might think that the two of you already had the same last name.

  9. i've never actually seen last names used in vows (it's always first names like do you jane take john), but if you do, you would use your maiden name since you are not yet a jones.

  10. You name continues to be "Red McBride" until the moment you become "Mrs. Groom Jones." To be technical, no matter how much your new TITLE may be "Mrs. Groom Jones", your NAME continues to be "Red McBride" forever. That you may add the "Jones" to your name doesn't make you any less "Red McBride."
