Question:

Question about picking up certified mail at the post office?

My roommate received a card that they tried to deliver certified mail but no one was home to sign for it. She is out of town until the end of next week but she really wants to know what it is (pertains to certification in something). Will the post office allow me to pick up her certified mail even though I am not her? We live at the same address so I wasn't sure...

  1. If they left the slip on your door there is a place to sign it to release the package to the named person so you could just sign her name in the right spot and go pick it up.

  2. You should be able to pick it up if it has not been sent "Restricted" as well.  See the link below for the rules.

  3. If you have the 3849 that they left for her, take it to the post office and sign for it. You will have to sign your name on it, not hers. Then just see that she gets it. Or you can call the post office and see how long that they will hold it for her. Some are only held for a short time, but others are held for up to a month, then she could go pick it up herself.
