  3. The starting salary is around £30,000.  I have no idea what the top range is but its likely to be in the £100,000s.  Ryanair pay experienced captains in excess of £100,000.

You should aim for at least 5 GCSEs A* to C, but around 8 would help to distinguish you.  You generally need 2 A levels, but most airlines require a degree also so you may need more.  Try and go for a maths/physics route as this helps to show logic, and may help with any pre entry assessments.

Try and get yourself a PPL.  This will help to show your commitment if you wish to become a commercial pilot, as there is so much competition out there.

The duties of the job are varied.  They start from filing flight plans, to checking the aircraft, flying, ensuring safety for everyone on board, doing the paperwork afterwards etc.  Also as you become more experienced you can become a line training captain.  It is pretty much a flying instructor to train pilots to become captains.
