when you take off on a plane, why is it necessary you have your window open. I am deathly afraid of takeoffs and landing, and i hate having to keeep my window open. I just clothes my eyes and put my head in my lap.

when i say windows, i mean the blind thing you have to have open that covers the windows

  1. It is for your safety, it gives your eyes time to adjust to the environment in an event of a crash you can safely escape by following the lights on the floor.

    - Happy flying Kate =)

  2. Two reasons

1- As the other answerer mentioned to quickly orient oneself in the event of evacuation.  Seconds count, so you either dazed or wandering doesn't help

2- Ensures the cabin crew has unrestricted vis so they can immediately direct passengers to nearest safe exit.
