well i love to dance. i take 4 dance classes a week 2 are ballet classes (one of them is on tues. and is 1 1/2 hours and one is on friday and is 2 1/2 hours) and 1 is a contempery class and one is a hip hop class. i dance at this place called the adg.

i've been dancing ever since i was young and i did alot of jazz/ballet but never REAL BALLET like i do now.

NOW THE QUESTION IS:

about 4 months ago i just started doing a real ballet class for the first time (besides when i was like 3 when i did it for one year but it wasnt even ballet) and i got put into pre -elementry wich is after level 7. i thought it was weired because i thought that i would go in level one but the teacher said that i would pick it up quick because of all the dancing that i have done. when i got into the class i noticed that some girls started to get pointe shoes and now i am the only one out of my class of 14 people that doesn't have pointe shoes. My teacher said "oh dont worry, you wont get them any time soon." yet she always says that i am right up with the class and i'm doing great and that my feet and thighs are strong.

what does that mean??

what time do you think i'll be able to get them?

do you think i'll get them by the time i'm 15??

please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

remember 10 points to best answer!!!!!

love you allllllllll

  1. Hey!

I reackon she will put you on pointes in 6 months to a year. The thing is that you cant straight away go onto pointes. Maybe its to do with age? Maybe level 1 is for the little kids and level 7 is for 15 year olds like you so you have to go in that group. The other girls probably have been doing ballet for ages! But show off in classes to proove you ARE ready (good technique etc..) practice at home and if she ever asks a question and you know put your hand up and she might just tell you when you can go on.

    Good Luck

    :)

  2. when a dancer takes a break from dancing (like, say, 3 months), the rule of thumb is that she needs to be back in class for the same amount of time that she was away BEFORE she can get back up on pointe. that way she can rebuild any strength she may have lost without risking injury, like the above answer says. since you are only now focusing on ballet seriously, you still may not have the strength for pointe shoes.

keep working hard and don't compare your progress with the progress of the other girls. they may have been studying ballet for longer than you and therefore have really trained their bodies for pointe work.

using a time-line is healthy and a good way to focus yourself. use that to guide you in your training. keep in mind that being on pointe usually means more ballet classes are necessary. your teacher may want you to take additional lessons to help maintain your strength.

don't worry though---work hard, be diligent. you'll get your pointe shoes soon enough!

  3. your feet and thighs have to be completely ready for them. since you have to get over on them ( which means standing up all the way on them) . and if she puts you in them too early it may cause an injury.

you do sound like you are almost there, so just keep building up muscle in your legs and feet, and you should get them soon.

my guess is less than a year if you keep working =D
