hi ladies, im 23 and was just wondering about pcos, for the last 6 years i have been goin to the doctors every year trying to find out why i have only been getting my periods twice a year, all of them said it was because of sudden weight gain, so thinking it was true i left it, then i started gettin cramps like my periods had come, nausea and really bad fatigue everyday for the last 5 weeks, so i went to a different doctor and he said' i looked at the ultrasound when you were 16 and you have a lot of cysts on there, im sending you to a gyno i believe you have pcos' well i was very angry as you could imagine 6 yrs and now they finally tell me!!! so my question is what should i expect? will there be a lot of meds or an operation ect?

  2. Go straight to an endocrinologist, who will get you the diagnosis you need right away.  If you have PCOS, it can be easily controlled through medication and diet.  I was diagnosed with it last year (at age 30).  The medication the endocrinologist prescribed (Metformin, also known as Glucophage), combined with The Insulin Resistence Diet (check out the book) got the condition under control very very quickly.  As for your cysts, the doctor will have to determine how bad they are.  They might just keep an eye on them by performing regular scans, or they might want to try to remove them.

PS If you are overweight, the Insulin Resistence Diet is recommended for anyone who wants to drop a few lbs.  Weight loss in itself can greatly improve your condition - especially if you are trying to regulate your cycle and/or conceive.
