Question:

Question about power lines ... just curious..?

We have some tree branches and dead limbs hanging over our power lines..

They are the lines that run from the road to our house..

They need to be cut back because of Hurricane Season (We live in Florida 30 minutes from the Gulf)..

We use Gulf Power....

but I was wondering who is responsible for cutting the branches back??

I've heard that since they are the lines that run directly to our home it's our responsibility...

but I've also been told that the power company does NOT want anyone near the lines whether it be a professional tree cutter or ourselves..

So I have no idea whether to hire someone or to call the power company!

  1. The power company pays more to line crews to repair downed lines than to tree trimmers for prevention.

They are probably only REQUIRED to keep branches and other obstacles off the lines.  But if high winds - likely in your area - are likely to bend trimmed trees onto the line they ought to get off their asses and trim 'em!  Lie a little...Tell them you saw sparks the next time there's a breeze.

  2. call gulf  power   and  ask ??

  3. Call the power company.

  4. the power company.they have a 30 ft easment, 15 ft on each side of the center of the pole...

    lic. gen. contractor

  5. If it is a service drop they won't touch it ,it would be easyer for them to put it back up than trim the tree. If you want to trim the tree yourself use pruners not a saw !

  6. The power company is responsible for everything, up to and including the meter.

  7. usually the power company hires contractors to trim the trees that are over growing around the power lines. I would call you electric company and tell them about your situation, they should send somebody out to look to see if it is necessary to trim the trees
