Ok is head start first or preschool? I know pre-K starts at 4yrs then K is 5... is it headstart 2yrs, preschool 3yrs? or the other way around? also how much does it cost for each? Are there any for low-income families? My daughter is 19months old right now & I'm just preparing for the (very near) future... Thanks!!

  1. I think head-start and pre-school are the same, except that the head-start programs may actually funded by the public school systems.

There are usually programs to help low-income families enroll children in the head-start program and some private pre-schools have scholarships and sliding scale payments for low-income families.  Start checking out the possibilities in your area now as some programs may already have waiting lists.

The cost of these childcare programs is going to vary according to where you live and where the schools are located and such.

Kudos to you for recognizing the benefits of pre-school type programs!

  2. I am a Head Start teacher and the ages of my children reange from 3-5. In my state, to start kindergarden they have to be 5 by September 1. Pre-K is mostly 4 and 5 year old but where I am there is 3 year old in there.

  3. Head Start is a federally funded program and is usually offered to low income families for free or low cost. Early Head Start goes from birth to age three, Head Start is a preschool program for 3-4(possibly 5 year olds). Check out www.nhsa.org for more information.

  4. headstart is basically preschool. headstart in different as they go by the regular school schedule in which they prepare the kids for actual school by having them write, learn letters ect........some preschools do this also but headstart if known for it.
