  1. Lumens are important, but I would also look at Contrast ratio.  The Contrast is the perceived Black level.  Since projectors cannot project black (it's the abscense of light) it uses varying degrees of dark grey to give the illusion of black.

    Because Lumens are the brightness of the projector, you want the image to be bright, but not too bright as it will wash out the colors of the screen.  So look for one with adequate Lumens, high contrast and hopefully 1080p.


  2. The above poster is correct. However, there is no industry standard for measuring lumens or contrast ratio. You can't just compare the numbers on the side of the boxes to determine which is better.

    Few salespeople have much real experience with projectors because they work in brightly lit retail environments. So, with a price range in mind, and a precise distance the projector will be from the screen, find yourself someone knowledgeable to talk to. A home theater tech with CEDIA and ISF certifications is a good place to start.
