Question:

Question about purchasing private insurance?

My husband works for himself and does not have benefits. We have benefits through my job. I am pregnant and really want to stay home with my baby. Does anyone have any recommendations for private insurance in Texas (DFW area)? I know nothing about this at all. Also, if I wanted to work part time just to have benefits for my family, are there any legitimate work at home things I could do? What about companies that offer part-time benefits - working as little hours as possible? Any information you have on this would be really beneficial to me. Thank You!

  1. As far as legitimate work at home jobs  go - I don't believe they exist.  Be prepared for lots of spam answers to your question though! :(

Most companies do not pay benefits to part-time employees.  Sorry.  You usually need to be full-time to receive benefits such as health insurance, etc.

  2. Well, no private insurer is going to write a policy on a pregnant woman.

He should go to the agent that does his business insurance, and ask them for a quote for health insurance.   A low deductible, family plan is going to cost $1,000 a month, IF none of you have any health issues.  And it won't include maternity.

You can't do work at home stuff, and get benefits.  It's contract work.   The most legitimate work at home thing, is daycare.  Most of the time, you HAVE to work a minimum of 20 hours a week to get access to benefits.

  3. I suggest a company called ameriplan.  They are a medical benefits company and you get free medical insurance when you join the company.
