Question about quotes?

It may be a silly question, but if you are quoting someone, and they quoted someone inside the quote, how would you write that? I'm trying to make a good impression in my AP class and the quote is "the medieval Christian Church has often been described as the Heir to the Roman Empire." The "Heir to the Roman Empire" part is a quote within the quote. How would I write that properly?

can you figure out a way to paraphrase so that you don't have quotes withing quotes, technically it's not grammatically correct.

It would be like this.

"Hey"

"Hi, what did he say last night?"

"He was all like 'i love you, come back to me'"

its not silly many people do not know this.

What you do when someone is talking inside a quote or you have a quote inside a quote is instead of putting two " lines you put one ' like that so it would look like

" the medieval christian church has pften been dexcribed as 'the heir to the roman empire' "

If you have already used quotes ( "  " ) and you want to insert a quote INTO that set of quotes, you would use the apostrophe ( '  ' ).

For instance,

"Dinah told me," she said, "that Jack said 'No way!' when he turned down the offer."

That's not a silly question.  

A quote within a quote would go this way: "The medeival Christian church has often been described as the 'Heir to the Roman Empire'  "

An apostrophe on either end of the "quote within a quote"

It is hard to see but the last quotation mark is actually three '

When quoting something that has quotation marks inside of it make the quotation marks single ( ' ) instead of double ( " )
