Hello,

i've been doing some research on radar detectors and it seems like the valentine one is one of the best radar detectors out there. ive also read that in California (where I live) they use laser detectors to check your speed; does the valentine one pick up on laser detectors also? And in California are there any new detectors for speed or anything that wouldnt be able to be picked up on the valentine one? Also I know this might sound stupid/childish but are there any detectors/systems that could detect police/cop cars? Thanks for reading this post.

  1. The best windshield-mounted radar detector in independent tests by Speed Measurement Labs and 1stRadarDetectors.com is the Beltronics STi Driver (see sources for a comparison of the top 5 radar detectors.) The Bel STi Driver provides the best detection over the greatest distances with the least number of false alerts and 100% invisibility to police radar detector detectors. The Valentine One radar detector comes in a close second, with the following 3 radar detectors rounding out the top 5 radar detectors in the world: Escort Passport 9500i, Escort Passport 8500 X50, and Beltronics Pro RX65. See the source link for a comparison and links to all of these products. However, in California, you are not allowed to mount anything to your windshield. So if you buy a radar detector, you might want to mount it on your visor or elsewhere.

Police may also use laser (LIDAR) to measure your speed. If you are concerned about police laser (LIDAR), your only alternative is a laser jammer. Most radar detectors will detect police laser, but when you've detected the laser, it's already too late. All it takes is 0.2 seconds under the laser and your speed is recorded. A laser jammer detects and jams the laser gun, allowing you time to adjust your speed if necessary. Like radar detectors, laser jammers are also legal in nearly every state, however they ARE NOT legal in California.

There is no such thing as a 'cop detector'. You might detect a radar gun or a laser gun used to measure speed, but neither police officers nor their vehicles emit anything that can be 'detected.' There is also no such thing as a 'radar laser jammer.' Radar jammers are illegal under US Federal Law. Radar jammers are illegal to use in any vehicle in any state. So, you're shopping for a radar detector and/or a laser detector and/or a laser jammer.

  2. well personally i think that if you are going to get a device for police radars, look up "laser radar jammers"

obviously the title says what it does, and assuming that they mean laser when they say laser, it should thus, take care of laser detection.

radar detectors in general, dont necesarily detect the actual gun but they detect frequencies at whcih cops operate on, so when you get near them, it is just saying. "hey there is a cop"

no "hey there is a radar"

so i would go with a laser radar jammer.
