  1. If there's nothing wrong with the hardware, then there's no reason you shouldn't be able to reinstall Windows XP. If there is a Windows Product Key sticker on the side of your computer you could download a copy of Windows XP, burn it to a CD and install it that way using your own legal key code and that's perfectly legal.

If your hardware is up to Windows Vista minimum requirements, which it probably isn't, then you'd have to buy your own Vista CD, because you wouldn't be able to activate it with the other Vista CD without a Vista product key.

  2. you would have to see if your hardware has drivers that can be used with XP.

  4. Hi Blake

The secret is to install any windows from the windows environment itself. It will ask you to overwrite the existing windows directory or create a new one. Choose the overwrite option. it will create a new registry and your computer will be much faster. This way, you also won't lose any data on the drive although, you will need to reinstall the old software if you do need the old data.

Your choice will be to keep the data or erase it. This is the proper way to install or upgrade any windows, not from boot up. as for the Vista on the other pc....forget it. It has the hardware profile of that computer and not the other one. You will have problems.
