  2. Dreamer's answer is completely backwards. Colombians are not true redtails, nor are they the largest. Surinames, Brazilians, Peruvians, and Guyanans are true redtails (BCC) and all are capable of growing larger than Colombians (BCI). Colombians are Boa constrictor imperator (BCI). True red tails are Boa constrictor constrictor (BCC).

  3. Here's an excellent website on RTB's.

  4. I've heard that there are over 150 sub-species of red tailed boas. The largest is the Surinam, sometimes reaching 13-16 feet. The average size of a Surinam is closer to 9-13 feet.

  5. I think you are mistaken.  A "true red tail" would be the Red-Tailed Boa, also known as BCC or Boa Constrictor Constrictor, or the Columbian Red-Tailed Boa.  Surinam, Amarali, Guyana, etc. are smaller boa species that are also red-tailed boas, but they are not THE "Red-Tailed Boa".

BCC grow to about 13 feet, with females being larger than males.

All of the smaller red-tailed boa species average 6-8 feet or so.

Edit:  Yes, Columbian Red-tails or BCC are the largest species of red-tailed boa.

  6. A true redtail boa grows to be 10-11 feet in length, im not sure about the sur names though, but i work at a pet store so let me know if you have any other questions
