Question:

Question about rugby kit?

Guys, I know this sounds very adolescent, and trying not to go into too much detail, but I have this honest question...

Its about going commando under my shorts-I use to wear regular briefs, but once I would start sweating = not comfortable. Lately I wear a jock, but I often feel like the boys are too smashed up with no breathing room. I've noticed a couple of my mates going commando, and I've never heard them complain of being hit in the balls, etc. I've started going commando while I do my daily run, with no problem. I'd like to give it a try on the pitch, but I'd hate to find out that it was a bad idea when I'm in the middle of a game. Your experience?

  1. when i'm playing i don't wear any underwear such as briefs or anything ... i wear lycra support shorts under my rugby shorts. Gives me the confidence that i'm not commando, and everything is nice and cool :-)

Rugby shorts are a bit short to go commando in my opinion

this is what they look like, they are available at loads of sports shops

  2. Once in a while I freeball, but usually wear a jock. I understand about smashing the boys. I went through a few jocks before I found one with a decent sized pouch. Not trying to brag, but most jocks are too small. I found a swimmer's jock which is a thinner waistband and much more comfortable with a thick cotton pouch. I think it's a Calvin Klein. I was surprised that a fashion jock works best, but it does.

As for commando, no worries. I've had a few pop-outs, but no big deal. The pop-outs seem to actually work to my benefit - Once my stuff is hanging out, others are reluctant to tackle, or grab anywhere near my waist or upper leg! Excellent defense mechanism. LOL.

As for the lycra shorts, they serve the purpose, but I personally don't like how they feel. I think its often the shy or insecure guys that like a "body suit" feeling. Maybe I'm too old school, but I think they look rediculous when the legs are worn below the rugby shorts. Just my opinion.

  3. If its any help, in the good old days we used to wear speedo swim trunks. They were good and not too expensive.

My last pair lasted nearly 10 years.

  4. No mate if you run or speel (play) rugby without anything supporting your balls the tendons (or some other tubes) get twisted and is only reversable by opperation
