Question:

Question about safe foods for babies?

My son is 9 and a half months, and I want to know whether he can have houmos/hummus/however you like to spell it?

I am just worried about the sesame paste used to make a lot of the shop bought brands - is it only an allergen for those who have a history of sesame allergy in the family?

  1. There's an interesting article about giving babies sesame-based products here: http://www.homemade-baby-food-recipes.co...

  2. Humous should be fine unless there is a strong history of sesame allergy in your or your partner's families.  My daughter loves humous and she is 10 months old.

  3. It doesn't always take a family allergy history to cause an allergy for a baby. Nobody in my family is allergic to berries yet my oldest is allergic to blueberries.  Nobody else in the family is allergic to peanuts yet my youngest son is allergic to peanuts.  When ever you are in doubt about if something would be safe to try with an infant or child it is always best to talk to their DR that knows their medical history.
