  1. for hiking you will want nylon sock liners and wool socks they help prevent blisters first you put on the liner the the wool sock and they are also very comfortable and also do buy a cheap brand of boots if you are going to hick a lot get the more expensive pair or the pair hikers recommend(hikers from your local outdoor store) they are a real life saver in the end.

    have fun

  2. Sleep with one eye open.

  3. Make a list of what you think you need. Compare with your mates. Make a final list and tick it off as you pack.

  4. In response to some misinformation you may have heard, you absolutely do not need to wear hiking boots, wool socks with nylon liner socks for hiking! What overkill and waste of money. You're not fighting a war are you? It's just walking on dirt and rocks. In fact you'll do just fine in a pair of running shoes or similar athletic shoes and a pair of thin synthetic socks, not cotton. If you wear hiking boots, you're feet will sweat, stink, and you will get blisters no matter what socks you wear. And since they weigh up to five times as much as a pair of sneakers, you'll do just that much extra work just to walk down to the lake. Hiking boots aren't cool and they aren't hard core, they're heavy and soaking wet and painful and impractical.

As for camping, you need to have either the right gear or a lot of the wrong gear to keep yourself warm. Your old sleeping bag just won't cut it in the woods. You need a mummy bag, full synthetic, and a real tent, not a wal-mart tent, but one with a rain fly that touches the ground and lots of mosquito netting to keep it light and airy, something in a free-standing dome. Keeping warm, dry, relatively clean and comfortable is your goal.

  5. Im not really sure what your asking but I'll tell you what I would do.

    Things to bring

    -Sunscreen

    -Baseball cap

    -Sunglasses (Optional)

-Bug spray...lots and lots of bug spray...

-Bring 1 set of clothes for each day, plus one set (If your going on a 5 day trip, bring 6 sets of clothes)

-If you have free time, bring a football or something to throw around.

    Besides that, follow instructions carefully.

  6. Actually, modern hiking boots AREN'T all that heavy, and if they fit you properly, they DON'T give you blisters.  But, if your hikes are under 10 miles a day, and if they are on groomed trails, running shoes will do fine.

If the trails are steep, rocky, and ungroomed, you will save yourself by wearing hiking boots or trail shoes.  (Properly fitted, modern hiking boots.)  Regular tennis shoes don't have a rigid enough sole to allow you to hike in comfort in that situation.

    Decent hiking socks, like these

are essential on a long hike.

Take care of your feet, and they'll take care of you.
