With todays gas prices, many ppl are looking to save on their gas bills, including myself. I need to to know what license I would need to have to drive one? Will it be the same as a motocycle license. How are the insuranse rates on them? Are they easier to learn to ride/drive than motorcycles? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, I live in Oklahoma.

  1. First of all, if you have "B" type of driving license (for automobiles) the one for a motorbike is easier.

In many countries the licence required for a scooter is the same as multi-gear motorbike.

In some countries scooters up to 50 cc is OK for a "B" licence.

Scooters (most of all) don't have gears, so there is no clutch. They have a CWT gearbox, namely a variator. You just accelerate and brake. Many of them have the brakes at handles, some have the back brakes for the right foot pedal, like an ordinary motorbike. They are surely easier to use than a motorbike, especially in traffic where you need to brake and accelerate very often. Anyone who can ride a bicycle can ride a scooter.

Besides, it will help you with the parking tickets too :)

Insurance rates change, you need to learn it locally.

I am not in the USA :)

  2. Assuming you are 16 and have a drivers license, getting a motorcycle endorsement is a matter of taking a written exam specific to motorcycles. Study for this as you did for the auto drivers license and you will have no problem.

Next sign up for a motorcycle basic skills class, given over weekends. It is a 20 hour class. After passing, you will receive your endorsement and it is applied to the back of your existing license.

Yes you save money on gasoline but .... you will spend it on tires. Tires for a cycle are more expensive than car tires and they last about 1/3 as long. Buy a quality bike, Brand name only.

  3. for most larger scooters you need a class m1 endorsement.

most scooters have automatic transmissions so it's just a matter of twisting the throttle. If you can ride a bicycle you can ride a scooter.
