Question about security cameras in Hotel rooms?

Hello,

This might be a really silly question, but here goes.

When you stay in an upscale hotel, do they ever have hidden security cameras in the rooms? I'm asking because my girlfriend and I would be really embarrassed potentially if that is the case. Maybe Im just being paranoid but if there are cameras, do they ever randomly check on rooms and laugh if they see people doing something (ahem).

What can you tell me?

If you are travelling in Canada or the US, there would only be security cameras in the common areas of the hotel.  I think it is illegal to have cameras in the guest rooms as it is an invasion of privacy.  However, if you are travelling abroad, I'm not sure.
