I want to send a letter I want to send but it is about 2mm two thick to be classified as a letter in the UK and instead would be classified as a large letter which is much more expensive.Would the Royal Mail care if I sent it as a letter anyway?

  1. If you send it as just a letter the recipient will have to collect it from the sorting office and pay the extra postage which is only 6p but also the administation charge which is £1.  Would they be happy to do this? if so, send it.

  2. They wouldn't care as such, but the recipient would have to pay the excess postage before it was delivered. And if they don't pay, your letter/item doesn't get delivered.

  3. get it weighed propery, other wise the reciever may have to pay other end, and they add a handling charge on top,

  4. You bet they would.  If you go ahead and post it without the correct postage then it will most likely be returned to you for additional postage.

If you do not put a return address on it they might be nice enough to deliver it to the receiver 'postage due' and make them pay the additional costs....

but most likely it will end up in the undeliverable bin and never make it to its destination, (without a return address, it wouldn't get back to you either).

Most of the mail is processed through automation machines and letters that are too bulky can't get through the belts and rollers and are likely to get chewed up instead of being delivered.

So you are better off to shell out that little bit extra if you'd like your letter to get there.  In a nutshell, YES the RM would care and you would be foolish not to pay the extra postage to send it as a large letter.  It can't be that much more money....

    =)

  5. It's just a few pence more, don't be so tight and pay it.
