I'm wondering how soap opera actors/actresses feel when writers put their character in a coma

  1. I would think that the actors/actresses meet with the writers and producers before such a drastic change of plans. I'm sure some like the hiatus, but others- who are really into their job and liked where their character was going- would be very disappointed to be in a coma. It all depends on the actor, I guess.

  2. I would think that sometimes if the actor wanted to leave the soap for a bit, they might discuss it with the writers and the writers could adjust the story-line accordingly.  I'm thinking specifically of the character of Evangeline in One Life to Live--the real actress (Renee Goldsberry) is the lead character in the Broadway play "RENT"--so perhaps that is why the writers put her in the coma.

"Rent" is closing on Sept. 7 so I wonder if the writers will rewrite her in--I doubt it.

Anyway, if the actor is suddenly told their character will be in  a coma, and if they have no other jobs, I imagine they wouldn't be too happy!

  3. I guess it would depend on whether the actor Wanted to leave the show or was Fired-

-I got to meet one of my favorites from GL a couple yrs back  just shortly after it was annouced he was 'let go' ( fired) and he was very polite about it-( he actually wasn't that surprised and was grateful his character had been on as long as it had.)

it was just another JOB and although he was disappointed he understood the way TV/Show business worked  But it is rarely fun to lose a job for anyone.

  4. Good question. I would guess if they need time off this is a good way to go. Than again if the writers are trying to figure where to go with their storyline it could be unnerving. :~)
