I just recently had a knee surgery and then I damage my knee...They took more X-rays of my knee, then I saw my surgeon, then he said I probally had a lateral slide thats when your knee cap overextends to one side, but then when he was pressing on my knee and tried to bend it, and I told him my knee was restricting me from bending it, he said right away I needed an MRI so on weds. I am getting an MRI done. Cause he thinks I might have torn some cartalige in my knee.

thats usless info, but thats what happened. And so now I can't play volleyball. volleyball usually keeps me in shape...so I have been worried that I am going to start gaining weight or something. I am 14 years old and 123 pounds. I am a tiny bit chunky but not fat or anything, I am almost 5'9

Now the realy question is what foods should I ask my mom to buy to keep me heather, they have to taste good and not be to exspensive...

I am not going to ea very muh junk food just everyonce in a while.

Now I know I have to excercise, but I really can't walk or anything, I have a full leg brace on, so excerise tips wont be neccesary unless its something I can do sitting down or standing (for a short period)

thanks very much.

=)

  1. You are young, and you are still growing.

Contact your nearest fitness centre, they will give you expert advice on exercises you are able to do, and also suggest the appropriate regimen for your height, weight and age.

You sound to be an active person, and your current situation is not a permanent one.

You will soon be lobbing that ball, your knee will heal.

In the meantime enjoy doing the things you can't whilst you're sporting.

    Kia ora from NZ.

  2. First off, sorry to hear about your knee!

As far as not gaining weight, the best advice is to eat healthy and not over eat.  Remember this formula, if you eat more calories in a day than your body can burn, it'll store the rest in fat.  As long as you eat small portions, and don't eat till your stuffed silly - stay away from fried food, sugary food or heavily processed foods (like cake, twinkies, etc) and make sure and eat veggies, fruits, whole grains and some proteins you'll be fine.  You should include fats, but only good fats like olive oil or the fat you get from eating fish.  You can have meat too, but not necessarily every day, and better to stick with the low-fat meats such as poultry or fish.

By the way, 123 at almost 5'9" isn't chunky, though you're tall, so I understand the feeling.  Just remember that eating healthy will keep you fit, strong and lean, it's the best thing you can do for your body.  Good luck, and don't worry - you won't get fat!

  3. At your age, you're still growing, so I wouldn't worry too much about gaining weight.  So long as you're trying to eat a varied diet and don't just eat junk food, you'll be fine.

In the meantime, if you have a Pho noodle house near you, get a bowl of noodles with beef and tendons in it.  Eating tendon is good for joints in general - especially your knees.  (Oh don't worry about the taste - it's basically like flavorless jello.)  $6 for a large bowl that will fill you up.
