  1. Yes, in fact you would just need to get endorsed in it. I got my bachelors in history and my masters in special ed and now I am a special ed teacher.

  2. You have to look at your state guidelines. In some states, you must be certified in order to teach particular content areas or special education.

Look at your state's requirement, then look at the school's program plan and requirements.

More than likely, if you are pursuing special education at the graduate level, you'll be able to legally teach special ed.

  3. It depends on the state.  In California, you could not.  You would still need a special education credential and then you would need to clear that credential with more coursework within 5 years. Check your state requirements.

  4. Yes. My undergrad is in early childhood. My masters is in special ed. I teach special ed.

No Child Left Behind says teachers must be highly qualified. You need a degree in everything you teach. So, to teach special ed you need a regular ed and special ed degree. You are on the right track.

  5. Yes, but it will take awhile...

  6. Yes.  In utah there are two masters programs.  one has a licensure, and the other one does not.  Make sure you go into a program that will license you.

Also,  in utah you can teach while you are getting licensed (due to the shortage of special educators) so you may want to look into that for wherever you live.

  7. You need to contact your state department of Education.  They have criteria for all kinds of teaching fields.  You can find your state department of education by going to your state's website.  For example Ohio is www.state.oh.us

    Hope this helps

  8. You are probally better off just taking a few courses and getting your special education certificate instead of a degree for it.

  9. You have to look at your state guidelines.  In some states, you must be certified in order to teach particular content areas or special education.

  10. You would have to contact your State Department of Education for specifics, but I believe in most states the master's would meet many if not all of the requirements for certification in SPED.  Good Luck!

  11. Yes. If you have a Special Ed qualification you can teach special ed.
