Question about stock BxA sizes?

Hi, I'm new to the stock market game... just wanted to know if there is a website that actually gives a breakdown of how many shares were bought and how many shares were sold of a particular stock. For example, if GOOG had a total volume of 4 million shares traded today, how can I tell how many shares were a 'buy' and how many were a 'sell' out of that 4 million?

  1. Although your first responder is correct--there is a buyer for every seller, so the numbers are equal--what is pertinent is whether the buying was done on the bid or the ask. This indicates whether there is more buying or selling interest when sales are made. For instance, in a fast bull market, a lot of buying is done on the ask, that is, the higher of the two prices, as greed prompts people to want to enter a market at any price.

Perhaps paid-for charting services have the answer, such as e-signal. Your question is an important one.

  2. You're joking, right?

There's a seller for each buyer and vice versa so if the volume is 4 million shares there were 4 million bought and 4 million sold.
