Question:

Question about strabismus surgery???

I was diagnosed with strabismus when I was 8 or 9, I'm 20 now and finally going back to the doctor. My right eye turns up and inward when I look left or sometimes when I'm tired. Otherwise it is mostly straight. Lately I've begun to feel it deviate more and have gotten slight double vision.

I am contemplating surgery (I've made an appt. for consultation but it's 2 months away) Have any of you experienced this? What should I expect? What is the recovery time.

Any information you have on the condition itself or the surgery will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

  1. I recently have had two similar surgeries on my eye.  It will almost certainly be a outpatient surgery (you'll get to go home the same day) and it probably will not be too painful.   I only took the pain medication for about a day or two.

For me the biggest issue was the disorientation that occurred due to the realignment of the eyes.   That took about a week or so for my brain and eyes to adjust.

I believe it will take about 6 weeks or so for everything to fully recover but you will probably will be close to back to normal after about a week.

I do wish you all the best!   Good Luck!

  2. I had the surgery when I was 5 and now I'm 30 and I have no problems . But now my daughter has the same eye problem (its hereditary)she now wearing glasses and she has to go to the Dr next week to see if she might need the surgery. Don't worry this is a common surgery you'll be in and out. Good luck
