  1. The way they handle it at our school is that you would have to arrange it ahead of time as independent study.  You will still have to turn in the work to the school and sometimes even administer tests.

They would definitely object to something that long because they are paid based on attendance.  They can report you for taking your kid out of school (it's the law that they have to be in some sort of schooling) so I would check with the office. Just be upfront.

  2. You could request an independent satudy, so that yur child would recieve work from her teacher to do while you are gone, and the school would still recieve their money.  If that isn't possible, then the school would probably ant to drop her off the roster, and you would have to re-enroll her for the next year.  They should be finished with major testing at that point, but that is a lot to miss, and all the fun stuff too!  Start asking the school now about what arrangements are possible.

  3. I agree with the first answer except 1st grade IS a big deal if you miss. They learn a ton of phonics that are very important not to mention math, money etc. But if you ask for the work ahead of time and truly do it with your child that should satisfy them somewhat. They also do a lot of year end assessing for the following year. But if your child does well in school I say a chance to see another country would be a great life experience. If your child struggles in school, then I would suggest signing them up for summer school to be sure they are on target for 2nd grade.

  4. Chances are they will object but they can't stop you.  1st grade isn't such a "big deal" if you miss.  You can always to her teacher and explain how you plan to "homeschool" her for a month.  They cant stop you and yo shouldn't reschedule.

    They will most likely understand

  5. That's too much time out of school in my opinion.  It's also irresponsible to take a child out of school unless it's necessary.
