Question:

Question about swollen glands in neck......?

My fiance (20 years old) has two glands in his neck (directly under his chin, and on the left side of his neck near where his tonsil is) that have been swollen for over a month now and are getting bigger.... so big that they are shockingly visible. They are sore to the touch.

He went to the doctor a few weeks ago and they gave him antibiotics to take 4 times a day. They didn't work at all. So last Friday we went back in for a blood test. We waited for the mono results which came back negative. As of right now we are waiting for the rest of the results that we should know in a few hours.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? It's really scaring the h**l out of us.

  1. When was the last time he was at the dentist?  An infected or abscessed tooth may be painless and present itself this way.  I had an abscessed tooth that swelled my entire face, but was totally painless!

It also depends on what the Dr is looking for in his lab work.  Have your fiance contact his dr and get the results asap.

  2. well, considering no mono and hes already taken antibiotics it could be:

a bacterial infection resistant to whatever antibiotic he took,

viral infections like mumps, herpangina or the flu

    Active tuberculosis

the plague         (TB and the plague arent likely)

    a lymphoma (tumor)

or catscratch disease    (not likely if you dont have a cat)

Dont worry, the doctors should diagnose it soon and your fiance will be back to health in no time

  3. Well i also have a swollen gland on my left side wich is when i touch it easy to see that's it's bigger than the right side but not visible. My swollen gland is caused by a bacterial infection in a poorly developped wisdom tooth it also has caused partial lockjaw can only eat soft foods. I would say if everything comes back positive you may want to try a dentist to see if there's anything causing it in that area. It's a counterattack the gland is helping the body to fight off the negatives if it's getting bigger it may mean it's losing. There is many different things that can cause a gland to swell. Good luck and take care :)
