I don't like taking pills. I've only taken pills/tablets about 2 times in my life. I'm 16. I don't have headaches so I never have to take asperin or tyenol. One time when I had to take some prescription pill b/c I was sick I didn't wanna swallow it so instead I did this: It was a pill that had powder inside so I broke the pill and poured the powder in a cup of water and I drinked it. this was like 2 years ago. Is that a dangerous thing to do or is it ok??

  1. It definately depends on the medication.  Some medicines need to release over time and taking it smashed up in water could lose it effectiveness.  If it's antibiotics, most come in a suspension and you won't have to worry about swallowing a pill.

  2. Depending on the medication, that can be VERY dangerous.  Some pills have to reach your stomach intact to avoid causing damage.  Your stomach is capable of handling the chemicals, but your throat often isn't.

They often have a coating for that reason, and you need to swallow them whole.

  3. Try to take a pill with either pudding or apple sauce. Don't open the capsules unless you really have to. Most are ok to open but some are not.

  4. Some medications can be very harsh on your esophagus and that is why they are put in capsules, so they can be swallowed down without irritating the tissues inside the pipe on the way down.  It is hard to swallow pills, and I don't think anyone really finds it pleasant.  Just make sure you are taking lots and lots of water the next time you have to swallow a pill.  That should help it go down easier.

  5. it is if the pill is a time released one, because when you do this you will be taking a dose that is determined for several hours at one time. this could be deadly. but as for regular aspirin and such it is ok to take it the way you are.
