My friend has claimed tax credits for years as she is disabled. The thing is that she has not told them she has changed jobs from one employer to another in the last year. she has given her income as correct and everything else, but failed to give these details as everytime she called somebody would get it wrong, get cut off or include disability free benfits in with her income. what will happen if she calls now to do it much later? How are taxcredits processed also, is it by computer or person as there are millions of claims to deal with

  1. Tax credits are processed by a person inputting the data from the form to a computer.

Your friend should have had in her annual renewal by now, so this would be an ideal time to inform them. The Revenue are interested in earnings and not much else to be honest. As long as the details of the earnings are correct she will be okay.

Why not get her to phone and say she is just checking that her details are accurate, say I am calling to check that I have declared x*x pounds received from Company Y. The Revenue will confirm this, but from experience they will check the income not the employer, so get her to get the persons name and title and record these, that way if they ever get back to her to en quire she just says I told Mr Smith on 13/06/08 of this.

As long as what are called 'entitlement details' ie her age, number of hours, wage etc are correct she shiouldn't have anything to worry about
