Question about teaching math?

I'm going to school to be a second grade teacher and I was wondering since Im terrible at math, and it sometimes makes me cry, if I could just not teach it. Is there really that big of a gap between the math they learn in first grade, and the math they learn in third? Am I allowed to make up my own rules since its my class?

  1. Math makes me cry.  If you would have been my second grade teacher and you didn't teach math, I would have brought you Pop Tarts every day.

Math is overrated.  That's why there are calculators.

  2. i could teach math for you... i passed my Paxis first try and i almost got perfect in the math section.

  3. Unfortunately, you must teach math.  If you cannot teach 2nd grade math, somehow I don't think you need to teach.  2nd grade math is addition and subtraction the first part of the year and multiplication and division the second half.

The thing about teaching is that if kids have a positive attitude toward math and science early they will not cry when they get older.  The attitude comes from their parents and most of all from their teachers.  Please be positive and don't make up your own rules.  Math is black and white, right or wrong.
