Question about tha Pins on a RAM, READ BELOW?

i have a serious doubt about tha pins on a RAM

i mean,

i know that when buying new RAM you need to know of wat family your RAM is

either DDR, DDR2, DDR3

but, i found out theres pins to it ?

does each family of RAM come with different pins ?

because i hear that RAMS have 72 pin

100 pin, 144 pin, 168 pin, 172 pin, 184 pin, etc etc

wat does that mean ?

do all RAM come with different number of pins ?

is tha number of pins what identify DDR from DDR2 and DDR2 from DDR3 ?

please get me out of this seriious tremendous doubt

The pin count is the number of connectors ram sticks have on them. The more connectors, the faster data can travel to and from the RAM. The most popular type of pins are 172 and 184-pin. Your pin count on the RAM has to match the pin count on the motherboard, e.g. a mobo that supports 172-pin ram sticks can't support 184-pin ram sticks, and vice-versa. You can usually find out what the pin count on your motherboard is by looking at the motherboard's specs.
