Question:

Question about the AF and G.I. Bill?

I'm joining the Air Force this October. After 4 years, I plan on going to Film School in California. The film school I want to attend does accept the G.I. Bill.

My question is: If I get an Associates degree in the Air Force during my active duty years, can I still use my G.I. Bill towards another degree once my 4 years is up?

  1. Yes you can.  After you get out of the military, you have 10 years to apply your GI Bill to school.

  2. Yes! you can use your G.I Bill for "higher Education" Actually I believe you can use it all the way up to a masters degree

  3. Yes, you get TA, while active duty, that is Tution Assisstance, but you must go to school during non-duty hours and non deployment hours, unless you can do online classes while deployed. I once knew a guy whp had three degrees, he used his TA and his GI bill.

  4. They can't 'not accept' the GI Bill.  The GI Bill money goes to you for you to use how you wish.  You can put it towards school, books, food, whatever.

  5. Yes. When you join, be sure to choose to pay the $1200 into your GI Bill. And for a little hint, they have an additional contribution that allows you to pay $600 on top of the $1200 but get even more back in return. You can use your GI Bill while you're on Active Duty, however, it would be in your best interest to use the Active Duty Tuition Assistance if it is available to you. This would allow you to pay for your associates while active duty and still have all of your GI Bill to use once you come off active duty. Documents to have handy when applying for your GI Bill are your DD214 (member 4), and LES showing your contribution to the GI Bill. These are NOT required but will help avoid complications in your paperwork.
