Question:

Question about the Chicken Pox Vaccination for my sons 1yr Check Up?

My son received his Chicken Pox Vaccine today, and while I was at the doctors she told me that he may get a rash within 7-10 days accompanied by a fever that may go up to 104. Anyways, my fiance and I never had the chicken pox before, and I was wondering if this rash that may appear can be contagious, and how long it will last. Anyone who's children had this vaccine, what were your experiences. Thanks!

  1. If your son gets a few pox that blister and open, that would be contagious, but if it is just a red rash then no not contagious. The incubation for pox is 14-21 days. If your son only gets the red rash then it might last for 5 days, if he gets a few pox it can take 14 days before they are completely gone.

  2. my son had them and got a rash,

    no its not contagious!

he will be o.k just make sure u keep a check on his fever

  3. Thats a question for you doctor.

    Call her tommarow

  4. My son received the same shots on June 2nd. The doctor's said that some of the side affects are fevers as high as 104, pains in the arms and legs, rashes, a sudden cold and diarrhea. The rule of thumb was anything lasting longer than two weeks should be evaluated by the doctor. The rashes aren't contagious; however, if it starts to spread take your child to the emergency immediately. This also goes for fevers are higher than 104 (if you give your child the 'Tylenol infant drops' twice a day his fever should stay down).

  5. My boys never got the rash or the fever after the shot but i was told if they did it wasn't considered contagious.
