Question about the GL Corps?

Question

Okay, I need a little help here. This is for a class. But I'm having trouble getting started because I don't know ANYTHING about this.

So. I'm asking here in high hopes

*What is the GL Corps?

*What is their purpose?

*What is their power and how does it work?

*Name Earth's major Green Lantern Corps representatives.

*Major events within the corps.

*Who is Hal Jordan?

Those are my questions. If you can answer any of them just to help me get a rough idea, it would be greatly appreciated.

The Green Lantern Corps is an intergalactic police force, assigned to keeping peace throughout the universe, by the Guardians, inhabitants of Oa, a planet located in the center of the Galaxy.

Their power comes from a central power source located on Oa, and is channeled through their rings, allowing them the power to create objects out of green energy to any shape they will. The greater a green Lantern's willpower, the pore power he can draw through his ring. They can also use the rings for flight, and life support in space, the rings also act as sentient computers, gaining it's wearer access to all information in the Book of Oa.

The Earth's first Green Lantern was Hal Jordan, (Alan Scott came before him, but he was not a true Green Lantern, and not a member of the GLC), after Hal Jordan quit the Corps, John Stewart, became Earth's Green Lantern, then Guy Gardner was chosen, and Finlay, when the entire Corps was wiped out, Kyle Rayner was given the last Green Lantern Power Ring. Currently, Hal Jordan is Earth's main Green Lantern, with John Stewart serving as his backup, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner are posted as special Green Lanterns at GLC command.

Major events in GLC history include, Hal Jordan's appointment to the GLC, Sinestro's dismissal from the Corps, Hal Jordan's possession of Paralax (which included Jordan destroying the central power source on Oa), his death, and his resurrection, the forming of the Sinestro Corps, and coming next year, is the rise of the Black Lanterns.

They have a central battery on Oa where all this power derives from.  The GL ring is powered by willpower (all Green rings are, which is a variation as many different rings are powered by different emotions)

John Stewart, Hal Jordan, Guy Garnder, and Kyle...something.
