If I go to the HHOF in Toronto around mid-August, will the current authentic Stanley cup be there, or just the replica?

  1. The plates from previous seasons will be there in the vault. It's a cool place whether the cup is there or not.

  2. Just the replica......................the authentic one will be travelling to some locale inhabited by a Detroit Red Wing

Keep in mind that there are only two differences between the authentic one and the replica

    1) The names are all spelled correctly on the replica

    2) The base doesn't have the HHOF emblem on it.

aside from that the trophies are equal in value, weight, etc and from 5 feet away, look identical (which they pretty much are)

    Players get it

    Management gets it

When you add up all the players (about 27) and all the management (about 20) and all the connecting flights in between (about 50)...........you are looking at close to 70-80 days.  The Ducks had the Cup for 73 days last summer.

  3. There are three Stanley Cups. The original which never leaves the HHOF except for engraving purposes. The Authentic which is presented to the winners and makes the summer travels including side trips to Afghanistan. And the replica which normally sits in storage at the HHOF unless the authentic one is doing it's thing. And then like a stunt double sits on display at the HHOF. It's the one without the dents and pock marks from a life of abuse and hard living.

  4. A replica will be on display at the HHOF..  Surer it'll be encased in glass, etc and security around it, but the original is housed in a bank vault in Montreal, and the engtraving on both the original and replica is all done by a female also in Montreal.

The original Stanley CDup is worth a few dollars, so it's taken out to have the bands engraved each and every year along wioth the ones on the replica, and then its' tucked away again for another year.

  5. The replica will be on display. You can touch it and get your picture taken with it. It is NOT in a case.

  6. The replica is there most of the year. being that the Red Wings have won the cup & the Stanley Cup travels through the summer with the team...(& most of the year)  more than likely in August the REAl cup will NOT be there.

I went to the HHOF novemeber 17 (which was I think a week after the hall of fame inductions. THAT's when you might want to go. (that's when the real cup is in house)

I ONLY know this cause I had asked after  I took my picture. how often the real one is in the hall.  So for sure go in November  if you want more of a chance to get picture with the cup.

(also if you have not been there before.. I can help you out a bit depending on where you are staying etc & what it around. I've been to T.O. 4x (not that I know the whole city) but I do try & help out best I can.

    - the "original" Stanley Cup is in Toronto, in an old 'Bank of Montreal' vault at the Hockey Hall of Fame.  It is encased in glass.  On the wall to the left of the vault door are all the old bands no longer on the Cup

    - the "authentic" Stanley Cup is, as LITY described, almost identical to the "replica" Stanley Cup.  It is the Stanley Cup which travels with the players and to official functions.  This Stanley Cup is rarely on display (according to the HHOF website)

    - the "replica" Stanley Cup is always on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.  It is NOT encased in glass, and patrons can touch it.  There is a security guard standing by to make sure nobody tries to lift it (and pretend they just won the Stanley Cup) and Phil Pritchard himself comes out to clean it every hour or so.

  8. The authentic is always there....oh, just give LITY the ten points...
