hello, i'm a third-year biology student planning on going to medical school, and since it's my third year, I'm gonna be getting ready for the MCATs towards the end of the year... and I was just wondering what is a good way to prepare for them? But subjects do I need to be proficient in?

  1. Oh boy! Well I just took the August 7 MCAT and it was a beast!

So how to prepare? Its a 4 part exam. The first part is 70 minutes of Physics and chemistry. Then 60 mins of Verbal, another 60 mins of 2 writing samples and finally 70 mins of biology and orgo. The highest score possible is 45.

Its best if you have taken Chem 101 and 102. Physics 101 and 102. Organic chem 1st semester and I guess you already have the bio requirements.

You can take a prep course but those are expensive. You really don't need to take a course.(I didn't). I bought the examkrackers books for the mcat. Those books along with taking practice exams are a lifesaver! You can buy practice exams from The Gold Standard on ebay. Just search "mcat practice exams." You buy most any MCAT preparatory book online and do it all by yourself.

Be diligent and keep at it. Take as MANY PRACTICE EXAMS AS POSSIBLE! If you have a job/other activities START EARLY! Its a lot of material. You dont want to scrunch up all your prepping into one month. Spread it out. The MCAT is not too bad once you've prepared yourself. The prepping is harder than actually taking the exam. Best of Luck!
