A friend and I once read that the Sony PlayStation 3 system is un-hackable. Like, you can't control it from another computer, upload a worm, etc. Is this true?

  1. You can install homebrews. Sony lets you install another OS (legally, through menu). As for hacked games - no, there's none. PS3 is like a fortress. Viruses and worms theoretically can get into PS3, but none came out at all.

  2. Think of it like this, to hack a normal computer you need to know how its CPU works and the vulnerabilities of its OS, eg XP has lots of viruses because people have had it for a really long time, and know how to exploit it.

To hack into a PS3, you need to have Linux, have knowledge of cell broadband processors and experience (in hacking), since the PS3 is relatively new not many people (hackers) have had much time to play around with it and find its vulnerabilites, so yeah currently its quite hard to hack into...

Its not impossible, it will just take some time

  3. its not completely unhackable. there are homemade hacks that can be uploaded into it(sony's intention) for example other os. also you can install linux on it to play some pc games. one guy hacked it so he could store entire games on the hard drive and its legal. ps3 is very hard to hack though. thats why some companies have trouble making games.

  4. Well you can download a virus, worm, ect. onto a flash drive.. and upload it onto the PS3. Then you will have a bug. But wirelessly it is impossible.
