Question:

Question about the SAT subject tests?

I have three questions regarding the SAT subject tests:

1) I need to take 3 SAT subject tests for college and I'm not sure which ones to take. What is the Mathematics II all about? If I've taken up to calculus AB, should I take the Mathematics I or II? Up to what mathematics do they include?

2) Also, is the Physics subject test easier than, the same as, or harder than the AP Physics B exam? I plan on taking this as one of my subject tests, but I don't want to get myself into anything that I'm not ready for. Same question for the chemistry and biology subject tests.

3) Can I take one subject test each month, or do I have to do them all at the same time?

Thanks.

  1. 1) The Mathematics I subject test covers Algebra I and II and Geometry. All questions on the Mathematics I subject test can be done without using Precalculus/Trigonometry.

The Mathematics II subject test contains basic Precalculus questions that involve some very basic Trigonometry.

Both of the Mathematics subject tests are very easy, in fact I think the Mathematics subject tests are actually easier than the Mathematics portion of the reasoning test but that's only my opinion. If you've taken up to AP Calculus AB then definitely take the Mathematics II subject test. You won't need to use any of your Calculus knowledge for it but knowing Calculus might certainly give you an edge. ;)

    2)

All SAT Subject tests are easier than the corresponding AP test. Seriously, the SAT subject tests are a joke, I got a 760 on the World History Subject test and I don't know a thing about History.

    3) You don't have to take them all at the same time but you must take them in time to send to whatever college you're going to apply to by their specified deadline.

EDIT: Ok, now I remember why SAT subject tests are easier than AP tests. Honors classes are supposed to prepare you for SAT subject tests so for example, if you've taken honors Chemistry or honors Physics that should be enough for you to do well on the SAT subject test in Chemistry or Physics. Since AP Chemistry and AP Physics B cover more material than an honors class that's why the AP exam is harder than the SAT Subject test.
