Question:

Question about the connection between animals and humans in social behavior?

I went to the checkout lane to pay my groceries when suddenly a guy in a red shirt from nowhere started yelling at my dad about how he should be in front of everyone. We didn't try to reason with him since he had a short fuse and seemed to be on steroids (Just an opinion) My mom uttered some comments to herself, carefully trying to look away and the guy replied back with " You don't want to mess with the wrong guy today..." Well, we moved to another aisle eventually but oddly enough it reminded me of that time when I saw a video about a male orangatan w/ a high testerone level defending his territory and bride-to-be

I'm curious with all the resarch conducted by Jane Goodman and several other evolutionists, is there a significant correlation between human social behavior in testerone/estrogren levels with other primates?

  1. Off top of my head RedShirt sounds mentally ill and you all were right to move on - never argue with a drunk or psychotic person.

How similar is some of that behavior with some of our lower primate cousins'? I cannot say. I will say that my anth undergrad time has forever changed how I perceive human behavior.

  2. I would rather think so, as we are primates. Great apes, to be exact.

  3. Valid point.

I suspect whatever causes unreasonable agression (drugs, mental illness, etc) does draw on common Primate traits.
