So, I went grocery shopping yesterday with my friend, and so then we popped by the dollar store to look at hte movies. xD But as I was looking at the food, I was wondering, how come things at the dollar store are exactly the same but cost less, this is a rough example. We paid around 2 or so dollars for a thing of pringles at grocery store, and they were 1 dollar at the dollar store. But my question is, why is that the dollar store can sell the same items as grocery stores/other places for only a dollar? I want serious answers please. Thanks. :]

  1. Because others stores mark things up twice as much for a larger profit. It's all about the money.

  2. Sometimes there is a misprint on the label so it gets shipped off to the Dollar Store.  Oftentimes you'll find holiday items there after the holiday.  A big issue is the quality.  You can go buy a can of chicken noodle soup at the Dollar Store that has 3 chunks of chicken in it, or you can buy Campbell's at the grocery store for $2 & get tons of chicken. Another thing to keep in mind is sometimes the items you buy at the Dollar Store isn't really a deal.  You can go buy 5 clothing hangers for a buck at the Dollar Store, but you can buy 10 clothing hangers at Walmart for a buck.   You have to keep in mind the old saying "You get what you pay for".

  3. It's expired.

Most of the food they sell that is currently being sold in stores is beyond the 'best by' date. Therefore, they can sell it at the dollar store. Also, some of the food they sell isn't sold anymore. So the bulk of whats left goes to the dollar store.

  4. i guess it's becasue the title they have. they are allowed to sell such things for 1 dollar
