Question:

Question about the future of mankind?

In the grand scheme of things, looking at the entire history of civilization...We started out as individuals & families. Then progressed to small groups. Small groups became larger. Those large groups became tribes, which eventually became nations. The point being that the size of our groups continues to grow. My question is this, do you believe that eventually all human beings on Earth will work as one "nation?" I'm talking in the scope of thousands of years. Do you even think we'll last that long, or are we doomed to destroy ourselves? Do you think eventually - as one planet - we'll have the technology to communicate and interact with other planets that work as "one?" Planets in a galaxy would be like nations in the world today - where right now Earth is kinda like a country that is in turmoil and has no real political leader, so the larger, more powerful planets don't even bother with us. Just an idea I had, what are your thoughts?

  1. bright future.  new world order.  international language.  one currency. global trade with little deficit.  women given equal status and so forth.

if man were to destroy hmself he doesnt need another thousand yrs to do so.  he can do it right now.  so good counsel has always prevail and will continue to do so

  2. Believe me when I say "We dont even have a clue as to how grand the scheme of things is"  Out there, billions of galaxies, each with billions of stars, a universe without an end?  Come on. no end?  It has to have no end, otherwise if it stops, what is on the other side...What existence is about, is so far beyond us, it is a headache sometimes, just thinking about it. I doubt if we will progress to the point where we contact other planets, which undoubtedly exist.  Maybe, with alot of luck, they will contact us.  If that is the case, dont fear, because to have reached that technology, they would have long realized that co-existence in a world or a universe truly relies on love.

  3. I don't know what will happen here on Earth, but given the restrictions of the speed of light, it seems unlikely that we will have planets in a galaxy that seem like nations in the world today.  Even if we could travel the speed of light (which apparently will kill us, how depressing), and made it to some other habitable planet and then made it back to Earth, time will have gone by much faster (relatively) here, so our families would be dead, and maybe Earth wouldn't even exist.  It would be difficult to maintain communication in a situation like that.  Although... there might be hope in a wormhole.  Or there could be some parallel universe where our laws of physics don't apply.  Or we could travel below the speed of light in a self-sustaining ship with not much hope of returning to Earth and settle somewhere new (if we knew of a place that could support human life).

But it would be nice if there were smarter, kinder aliens who had figured out the distance problem.  I agree with that.  As long as they're kind.

Oh, and about the universe having an "end" as someone said above: the universe isn't flat.  So it could be contained, but have no end.  (Think of the Earth.  Being globe-shaped, it doesn't go on forever, yet you never come to the "end" of it.  I read that in one of Stephen Hawking's books; he describes it a lot better than I do).

  4. I think your idea of the world being one nation will probably happen but not soon. We have to out grow our nationalism for that to happen. The fact is, we LIKE our nationalism because it allows us more freedom. If we lean towards socialism, we can live in a socialist state and if we like capitalism, we can live in a capitalist state. If all the world were one, there'd be a lot of compromising going on, not to mention struggle to change the order of things.

  5. If people around the world simply started to treat each other the way they would have others treat them, a grand peaceable change would begin to occur on this earth.

Until that time, you are correct NO other more advanced, peaceable human beings from other planets will interact with us miserable warring earth beings.

  6. Population growth is the hidden crisis.  I suspect the history of the last century should give us some insights as to what's in store when disease, wars, genocides don't take care of it.
